The Muriwai Golf Club, just 40 minutes from downtown Auckland, on the picturesque west coast was the host for the New Zealand Final of the NBR World Corporate Golf Challenge on Tuesday 11th March. Check out the Team Photos here.

The winners were the “Cool Runnings” team of Rob Simmonds off a 4 handicap and Eric Wynyard (18) with a total of 76 points.

The runners up were the “Rosebank Business Association” team of Mike Gibson (8) and Vern Pere (13) with a total of 74 points.

Despite a smaller than expected field, teams from all over New Zealand participated at Muriwai Golf Club, overlooking the Tasman Sea. Muriwai is a true Links course and offers a very demanding par 72. The winds were light and the weather perfect for the final. The greens were magnificent and running at 10.5 on the stimpmeter.

Not only did Rob Simmonds and his partner win the day but Rob had the best individual score: 40 points. Off a 4 handicap Rob was even with par on the day. For his individual efforts Rob won a set of Piranha Irons.

Other prize winners on the day were:

Steve Marshall – Nearest the pin on the 8th

Andrew Dewhurst – Long drive on the 18th

Judy Marshall – Long drive on the 18th

Thanks also to Andrew Dewhurst from Gracie Productions for his assistance before and during the day with his Radio Sport programme and his sponsor the Golf House.

Congratulations to Cool Runnings and Rosebank Business Association on their achievement which has earned them a berth in the field of the WCGC WORLD FINAL in South Africa at the spectacular Oubaai and Fancourt Golf Courses, 4th – 9th May 2010. Competing under the banner of Rosebank Business Association, the teams join together to represent New Zealand against teams from around the globe for the title of World Corporate Golf Champion. Good luck on the next leg of your spectacular world corporate golf experience!

Ray Barnett, General Manager, and Gail Johnson , Event Co-ordinator, of Muriwai Golf Club have been keen supporters of the New Zealand Series year’s. Hosting a Club Qualifying Event in February followed by this week’s Final, they’re both looking forward to being involved again with the 2010/2011 series.

Thank you to our New Zealand Series Sponsors 2009/2010

One of the game’s most colourful players, Rodger Davis, joins the World Corporate Golf Challenge as the 2009/2010 Series Ambassador.

Currently preparing for the Senior’s Tour, Rodger’s experience on the Australian and European Tour is highly regarded as he provides expert tips and opinion throughout November for the benefit of competitors in this year’s series.

Check out Rodger’s first feature in BRW on shelves Thursday 12th November 2009.

As series Ambassador, Rodger will play an important role for the competitors in this season’s Finals series. At the Australasian Final in April 2010, Rodger will be on-course to meet the players and share his experiences as a seasoned, professional golfer. The winning teams at the Australasian Final then have an unprecedented advantage heading to the WCGC World Final – Rodger will accompany them and act as coach and mentor throughout the matches at the WCGC World Final in South Africa.

Playing the World Final with this support will greatly increase the chances of another Australian team taking to the podium on the final day.
